THE AN-VILS (1953)
SOURCE: "The Mathematicians" by Arthur Feldman (Amazing Stories, Oct/Nov 1953)
DESCRIPTION: "'...They each had two arms, two legs, and all the other organs that humans are endowed with...The newcomers, each and all, had a pair of wings covered with green feathers growing from their shoulders, and long, purple tails.'" ("The Mathematicians" by Arthur Feldman)
NOTES: The An-vils were named because they half resembled angels and half devils. These intergalactic invaders took control of Earth but the humans tried to get rid of them first with biological weapons, then they imbued them with human emotions. The resulting wars almost wiped out the fast-breeding An-vils. The final attempt was to give them the emotion of "nostalgia", making them return to their old planet. Unfortunately this didn't work for the two born on Earth. In the end the humans were reduced to cattle.
HISTORY: Feldman has real fun with this story. The Earth's greatest professor is named Knowall. He even pokes fun at H. G. Wells by making the first strategy bacteria.
