AQUATIC TRIFFIDS (2001)

SOURCE: The Night of the Triffids by Simon Clark (2001)

DESCRIPTION:"More stingers lashed out from beneath tehlake. Now I saw the water ripple as they broke the surface...I stopped hauling on the mooring line because I realized that the pull the triffids were exerting had become fierce. Looking down at my legs I saw that perhaps a dozen stingers had wrapped around each limb. This was no accident. Those stings were prehensile. The strength behind their pull was enormous and at that moment I realized they were attempting to drag me into the water. " (The Night of the Triffids by Simon Clark)

NOTES: In Clark's sequel to the John Wyndham book, the author has the triffids changing quickly into different mutations such as the aquatic triffid that lives under water until it wants to kill things out of the water, when it appears suddenly, killing with its poisonous stinger. Another mutation allows the aquatic triffid to pull things into the water with its stinger.

HISTORY: Clark quite intelligently knows that a sequel with regular triffids would be pretty dull. He creates at least two new types of triffids, including the aquatic and the giant triffid. It's a fun sequel. Review.
