THE BLOSSOM WOMEN (1967)
SOURCE: "The Vale of Lost Women" by Robert E. Howard (The Magazine of Horror, Spring 1967)
DESCRIPTION: "Turning, she saw figures stealing from the denser shadows--slender brown women, lithe, naked, with blossoms in their night-black hair. Like creatures of a dream they came about her, and they did not speak. But suddenly terror seized her as she looked into their eyes. Those eyes were luminous, radiant in the starshine; but they were not human eyes. The forms were human but in the souls a strange change had been wrought..." ("The Vale of Lost Women" by Robert E. Howard)
NOTES: The Blossom Women of the vale were said to have been taken and made into flowers by some weird magic. They actually retain their human form except for their eyes. They serve the Demon from the Outer Darkness much as the were-hyenas do in "The Queen of the Black Coast". The breath of the lost women is said to be the same as narcotic flowers.
HISTORY: This story was done as a two parter in Savage Sword of Conan, though little of the original story is there.
