THE WEREWOLVES OF OSSORY (1108)
DESCRIPTION: “...lo, a wolf came up to them, and immediately addressed them to this effect: 'resat secured, and be not afraid, for there is no reason you should fear, where no fear is!'” ("The Wonderful Happenings Of Our Own Time; And First About A Wolf That Talked With A Priest" by Geraldus Cambrensis (1108)
NOTES: The werewolves of Ossory are cursed by a priest named Natalis, that every seven years they must assume wolf form. if they survive they become human again and two others take their place. The talking wolf wants last rites for his female companion who is dying. The priest they approached is wary but the wolves can answer all religious questions properly (which demons could not do) and he gives last rites when she becomes human again.
HISTORY: Cambrensis recorded the legends of his time and may have believed this miracle to be true. He follows the story with a sermon on giving into evil. As with most Medieval werewolves this one proves harmless even pathetic.
