CONAN THE BARBARIAN (1982)

Details of Plot and Cast

Trailer

Always loved this shot at the end. Too bad the franchise didn't live up to it.

Favorite Scene: When Conan and crew sneak into Thulsa Doom's Mountain of Power to take King Osrtick's daughter back.

Least Favorite Scene: Vulture chomping - totally stolen from Tarzan the Untamed.

Things I Still Like:

The cast for the most part is good. James Earl Jones is great, though he sat around a bit too much. Subotai and Mako were fun to watch. Max van Sydnow as King Ostrick was fun too. Sandahl Bergman wasn't as bad as I remembered. I liked the last half of the film better now twenty plus years later. The first half still bores me (except for the opening when Conan was a boy).

Things I Still Hate (Or Newly Hate):

The music is too loud. It covers everything in a cliche barbarian flavor that makes me gag. Not enough good monsters. That damn skeleton in the crypt still doesn't get up and do a Ray Harryhausen. The giant snake looked more like a puppet than I remembered. The Valeria standing in for Belit resurrection thing still bugs me though the cruxifiction of Conan is worse. Covering Conan in writing was probably cribbed from "Hoichi the earless" in Kwaidan.
