DEUCALION (2005)
SOURCE: Dean Koontz's Frankenstein: Prodigal Son (2005) by Dean Koontz and Kevin J. Anderson
DESCRIPTION: "Face fully revealed, he stood and removed his shirt to show them his body to the waist. The keloid scars, the enduring welts from primitive metal sutures, the strange excrescences..." (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein: Prodigal Son by Dean Koontz and Kevin J. Anderson)
NOTES: Deucalion is the present name of Frankenstein's original creator or Adam. One side of his face was horribly mutilated by Victor Frankenstein when the two originally fought in Austria in 1818. A Buddhist monk has tattooed the burned area with a mandala-style image. After two hundred years of suffering Adam has become more human than his master, calling himself Deucalion. Built to be superior to humans physically, Deucalion has two hearts and an improved musculature. He can move three times faster than a man. His studies in Buddhist monasteries allows him to do things with coins that would make David Copperfield blush. He teams up with two policemen to fight Victor Helios (Frankenstein) and his bio-engineered freaks called the New Race. Deucalion inherited the Luxe Theatre in New Orleans and makes it his base of operations.
HISTORY: Koontz has built on the reader's original sympathy for Frankenstein's Monster and made him into a superhero more or less. The story continues in two sequels.
