THE GHOSTBREAKERS

Sherlock Holmes

(1887-1927) by Arthur
Conan Doyle

"No Ghost need apply!" -- Sherlock Holmes

The man who needs no introduction! The most famous detective ever. But a ghostbreaker? In several of Holmes and Watson's adventures the appearance of the supernatural can be seen. Of course, it is as Holmes says: there are no ghosts in these tales. Probably Holmes' greatest ghostbreaking case is the classic The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902). Doyle created another famous investigator in Professor George E. Challenger but the fiercous Challenger never quite goes ghostbreaking, even though The Land of Mist is a book about Spiritualism. Doyle, unlike Holmes, was an avid believer in the supernatural. It hurt his reputation greatly in later years. All the Holmes' tales are listed below. Not all contain supernatural-seeming elements.
