Jeffrey Catherine Jones Portrait by Michael Netzer

JEFFREY (CATHERINE) JONES (1944-2011)

Jeff Jones was one of the four artist who created "The Studio" in 1975, along with Berni Wrightson, Barry Windsor Smith and Mike Kaluta. All four would play a role in furthering S&S and other fantastic genres of art. Jeff got his start with fanzines and Warren with "Dragonslayer" (Monsters & Heroes #2, 1967), "Thane part 2: Angel of Doom" (Creepy #16, August 1967) and "To Slay a Dragon" (Eerie #11, March 1969). He would go onto be one of the top paperback cover artists, second only to Frank Frazetta, who called Jones: "the greatest living painter". In 1998 Jeff Jones transitioned to a woman, now known as Catherine Jones. She died of heart disease in 2011.
