MARS HOGS (1952)

SOURCE: "Return of a Legend" by Raymond Z. Gallun (Planet Stories, March 1952)

DESCRIPTION: "Mars hogs that tunnelled in an eternal blind search for food were fair game in the darkness beneath the thicket leaf-carpets..." ("Return of a Legend" by Raymond Z. Gallun)

NOTES: Due to the cold air on Mars, many of the animals leave underground in the mulch left by Martian plants. The humans surviving on Mars took to sleeping underground during the freezing cold nights. They encounter diffeent sources of food and air including the Mars hogs.

HISTORY: I imagine these creatures don't look so much like a pig as a giant mole rat. Yum!
