MARTIANS (1964)
SOURCE: "Purple Priestess of the Mad Moon" by Leigh Brackett (Fantasy & Science Fiction, October 1964) and earlier stories
DESCRIPTION:"...He was a dark, small, lean, catlike man with the most astonishing yellow eyes..." ("Purple Priestess of the Mad Moon" by Leigh Brackett)
NOTES: The race Brackett calls Martians is really only one of many races from that planet. The Martians are the locals that dwell in the Lower canals when the humans come from Earth. There are other, older races such as the Ancient Races and the Shandakorans. The Martians are still much older than the Human Race. The Martians often have needle-sharp teeth. Brackett says they are beautiful in a cold and deadly way.
HISTORY: The Brackett Martians are as distinctive as Burroughs Barsoomians and Bradbury's Golden-Eyed Martians.
