THE MOLDED MNXX BIRD OF MORX (1952)
SOURCE: "An Egg a Month From All Over" by Idris Seabright (Fantasy & Science Fiction, October 1952)
DESCRIPTION: "Inside the careful packing there was a large, an unusually large, pale blue-green egg. Its surface stood up in tiny bosses, instead of being smooth as eggs usually were, and the shell gave the impression of being more than ordinarily thick..." NOTES: The Molded Mnxx Bird egg looked just like the egg of a Chu Lizard, a harmless creature. The Mnxx bird uses a psychic connection with its enemies to form itself into something attractive. This allows it to get close and kill the enemy. From the flesh of the dead it builds its own body.
HISTORY: Idris Seabright is a pseudonym of Margaret St. Clair. The name of the planet Morx seems a hint of television shows to come...
