ANCIENT MARTIAN MUD-WORM (1961)

SOURCE: The Nemesis From Terra by Leigh Brackett (1961)

DESCRIPTION: "...It probably led into a cul-de-sac, although it might, just possible, cut into one of those endless mazes left by the giant mud-worms of prehistoric Mars, whose tunnelings remain fossilized under the sea-bottoms..." (The Nemesis From Terra by Leigh Brackett)

NOTES: These extinct worms have left massive tunnels under the sea beds of mars, creating a network of passages that miners find and use.

HISTORY: H. P. Lovecraft may have inspired this vision of a worm-riddled planet.
