NEARLY HEADLESS NICK (1997)

Harry Potter Collectible of Nick
SOURCE: Harry Potter and the Philosophers' Stone by J. K. Rowling (1997) and sequels.
DESCRIPTION: "..."Like this," he said irritably. He seized his left ear and pulled. His whole head swung off his neck and fell to his shoulder as if it was on a hinge. Someone had obviously tried to behead him, but not done it properly. Looking pleased at the stunned looks on their faces, Nearly headless Nick flipped his head back on his neck..." (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J. K. Rowling)
NOTES: Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington is the resident ghost of Gryffindor Tower. Sir Nicholas was beheaded in life but not successfully. Because of this his head pulls to the side but doesn't come off completely. This fact causes Sir Nick much grief as the Headless Hunt, a group of headless ghosts, won't allow him to join. Sir Nicholas plays an important role in the second Harry Potter novel, The Chamber of Secrets as one of the victims of the Basilisk. His ghostly self is actually turned to ghostly stone. He is revived by Madame Pomfrey's mandrake root cure.

HISTORY: Nearly Headless Nick is played by veteran comedian John Cleese in the Harry Potter films.
