PIG DEMON (1969)

SOURCE: "The Snout in the Dark" by Robert E. Howard, L. Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter  (1969)

DESCRIPTION: "First he saw a piglike snout, covered with coarse bristles, which thrust into the shaft of dim luminescence that came through the window. Then he began to make out a hulking form admidst the shadows--something huge, misshapen, and bestial, which neverthe less stood upright. To a piglike head was now added thick, hairy arms ending in rudimentary hands, like those of baboon."("The Snout in the Dark" by Robert E. Howard, L. Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter)

NOTES: The demon is controlled by the wizard Muru who uses it to kill political enemies for Tuthmes. It appears first as a mist and can enter any building.

HISTORY: The appearance of this monster seems to me to be cribbed from the swinefolk in Hodgson's The House on the Borderlands and "The Hog".
