THE MOROG CUSTOM SUPER TRANSPORT (1953)

SOURCE: "One Man's Poison" (Galaxy, December 1953) by Robert Sheckley

DESCRIPTION: "...But it was all very apparent now. The most efficient machine to go over those vertical, razor-sharp mountains would be an animal, probably with retractable suckers. It was kept in hibernation between trips; and it drank water, the other products designed for it would be palatable, too..." ("One Man's Poison" by Robert Sheckley)

NOTES: The Morog Custom Super Transport looks like a coffin shaped box before being opened. Once opened and given water the creature inside it provided transport for the Helg. The creature's suction cups allow it to navigate the steep inclines of the Helg homeworld. The transport is a carbon-based life form with breath like stale onions. It uses water for fuel and is also fond of flesh, including human flesh.

HISTORY: Sheckley leaves the transport largely unseen, as the hapless man who opens the box is trapped in a room with the thing.
