VEELA (2000)

SOURCE: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling (2000).
DESCRIPTION: "...a hundred Veela were now gliding out onto the pitch...the most beautiful women Harry had ever seen...They launched themselves across the pitch, and began throwing what seemed to be handfuls of fire at the leprechauns....Harry saw that they didn't look remotely beautiful now. On the contrary, their faces were elongating into sharp, cruel-beaked bird heads, and long, scaly wings were bursting from their shoulders..." (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling)
NOTES: The Veela are beautiful women mascots of the Bulgarin Quidditch World Cup team. These siren-like beauties call to the male audience members, making them cheer for the Bulgarian team. When attacked by the Leprechauns of the Irish team, they reveal their true natures. Fleur Delacour, the Beauxbaton witch, can claim to have a Veela for a grandmother. Her wand contains one of her grandame's hairs. This ancestry explains her long silvery hair and her effects on boys.
HISTORY: Tales of these Slavic faery women vary greatly. Like Rowling's version all versions are powerful, possibly evil. Of course, completely missing from the film.
