WINGED MARTIANS (1961)

Virgil Finlay's version of the Winged Martians

SOURCE: The Nemesis From Terra by Leigh Brackett (1961)

DESCRIPTION: "...The gossamer creatures fluttered down onto the blowing sand. They wre human in body, slender and graceful, wearing only short kilts. There were both men and women. Their skin was covered with a fine silky fur, almost like bird-down, and they were no more than four feet tall..." (The Nemesis From Terra by Leigh Brackett)

NOTES: The winged inhabitants of Caer Hebra may be a diminutive version of the winged aliens seen in Shandakor, one of the lost Ancient Races. By the time of The Nemesis From Terra they are a small population of miniature winged Martians.

HISTORY: Though Brackett was largely influenced by Edgar Rice Burroughs the Caer Hebrans resemble not so much the Klangaan as they do the winged aliens in George Griffiths' A Honeymoon in Space.
